5ive Points: Evelyn Stevens

This week’s installment of 5ive Points has been a long time coming.

What can we say about Evie that hasn’t been said already by the likes of Vogue, Bicycling Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal?   On all accounts,  Evie is a straight-up two-wheeled sensation.    She started out two years ago by winning many of the biggest races in our area, such as Fitchburg, GMSR, Battenkill, and Housatonic Hills.  About a year ago, Evie traded in her pant-suits in finance for lycra and joined team HTC-Columbia, (alongside Mark Cavendish, George Hincapie, and Ina Teutenberg) taking the world of professional women’s racing by storm.  She proceeded to win stages at both Redlands and the Route de France,  as well as finishing 2nd overall at the Route.

The best part of this whole story is that we got to watch this fantasy story happen right in front of our eyes.  We can still remember her passing the pro women’s field at GMSR while riding a 30 lb road bike with a triple.  The NYC Community is a huge fan of Evie’s, and we’re definitely on the bandwagon.

NYCV: What bike do you ride these days?

ES: I am on a Scott and I love it!

NYCV: What’s your favorite ride?

ES: I am currently living in Girona, Spain and I would have to say my favorite ride is anytime I am riding along the coast

NYCV: What’s your favorite post-ride food?

ES: Lately I am returning home from my rides at lunch time and my current food of choice is a salad made with tuna, beets, a hard boiled egg, carrots, celery, mushrooms and cilantro with balsamic vinegar and a dab of pesto, sans lettuce.

NYCV: What’s one thing you always carry on a ride?

ES: I have an uncanny ability to get lost when I am riding so I always bring my HTC phone with me since it has GPS on it, key in helping me figure out where I am. Also, I always carry food, I hate bonking.

NYCV: What’s next for you?

ES: I am currently about to start day 2 of the Hollands ladies tour and then I have the world championships in Geelong, Australia.

Good luck, Evie!
