NYC Velo is a proud sponsor of the local BH/Garneau team and as such, we’ve built up some pretty sick red and blue BH G5s in the past few weeks. Now that the boys in the gelato-colored jerseys have had a chance to log some miles on their new rides, we asked rider Gregg Galletta to give us some of his thoughts on the bike:
I’ve put several hundred miles on my new G5, and thought I’d provide some feedback on the ride. I’ve also raced it twice (placed 7th at Quabbin RR last Sun) and have done a good amount of climbing and descending (including a 5.5 HR ride to Bear Mountain with 7k+ in climbing).
Other bikes I own and can compare it to include a Cannondale Six13 and a CAAD6. I’ve ridden all bikes with the same wheels including road tubeless.
As soon as you start turning the pedals on the G5, you immediately notice how stiff this bike is! Whether you’re in the flats, climbing or descending, not an ounce of power is wasted and you can almost feel the bike thrust forward with every pedal stroke. For short power climbs, just leave it in the big ring, stand up and mash the pedals and you’ll find yourself propelling up and away quickly. Once over the top I used to get a little nervous descending on my Six13 and now I actually look forward to the downhills. The G5 feels rock solid at speed and inspires you to lean it over in the corners. Clearly lots of time went into R&D to get the geometry just right.
Sizing seems spot on and at 5′ 8.5″ a 54 fit perfectly with a 110 stem and an inch or two of seat post showing. The seat mast does not inhibit traveling with the bike and it packed quite nicely into my Pika Pack Works travel case.
Oh yeah, did I mention how light this bike is? Overall a sweet ride all around and it’s on my highly recommended list.
Thanks Gregg!! Best of luck to you and the team this season!
