Nau Down Shirt

Have you ever been on a camping adventure, arisen in the morning and thought about how cozy and warm your sleeping bag is compared to the cold, harsh morning air? You wished you could stay in there all day, only to realize how awkward it would be to hop around the campsite, trying to make coffee in a sleeping bag? It’s not a pretty sight, scooping coffee grounds out of the dirt and hoping that most of your handful is indeed coffee. Then you brew said handful of brown and realize it was mostly dirt…..

Nau has solved all of your cowboy coffee problems with the 850-fill Down Shirt (currently available at NYC Velo). Just like your favorite sleeping bag, it marries a heap of function with a simple form. Nau has thought out every eco-production nuance of this garment to make it as responsibly as possible. The shell is made of 100% recycled polyester treated with DWR (durable water repellent) to shed light precipitation and snow. The fill is completely renewable 850 goose down, having been collected from geese allowed to reach their full maturity and having been specially bred for this purpose. Another feature of the 850-fill goose down is it’s excellent ability to trap more heat per ounce than other insulators. The shirt’s thermal qualities, coupled with it’s slim fit and thin profile make it at home equally as a mid or outer layer. All that in a simple, yet stylish quilted six-button jacket, complete with zippered front pockets. And unlike your sleeping bag, it has arms!

5ive Points (Video Edition!): Matthew Modine

This week’s 5ive Points is seemingly out of left field.   “What does actor Matthew Modine (aka Pvt. Joker) have to do with bikes?”

I’m glad you asked.   Mr. Modine is involved with a nonprofit called “Bicycle for a day,” or BFAD for short.  BFAD’s mission is to empower individuals with tools which they can use in their everyday lives to make a measurable, tangible difference to our community, our environment and our personal health.  Bicycles happen to be Matthew’s weapon of choice.

BFAD and Mr. Modine teamed up with our friends at the NAU popup store in order to promote their cause and discuss the importance for everyday city cyclists to be polite and kind, providing a good example of bicycle etiquette.  The NYC Velo crew was in attendance and CJ ended up interviewing Mr. Modine for this week’s 5ive points on video.   Thanks Matt!

Nau + BFAD Event

Our good friends at Nau are putting on an event tomorrow that combines two things we love:  Their clothes and bikes.  Toss in Matthew Modine and 20% off Nau’s products and you’ve got a ho-down.

Nau and Mr. Modine are hosting this event in order to promote “Bicycle for a day,” an organization dedicated to promoting bicycling as a positive source of empowerment within the community.  Matthew will be talking about BFAD and discussing the importance for everyday city cyclists to be polite and kind, providing a good example of bicycle etiquette.
