Bike Storage

Need a little extra room around the apartment for visiting family members or gift stashin’ this holiday season? This is New York City – everyone needs more space! Maybe the trusty steed stowed in the corner of the living room is a sad reminder of the season’s harsh and less-than-enjoyable cycling weather.

Regardless of the reason, NYC Velo has the solution!

From December 1st, 2011 through March 31st, 2012, NYC Velo is offering secured and insured monthly bike storage! Like all things NYC, space is limited!

      • $65 per month
      • Climate controlled
      • Completely secure and insured
      • Prorated rates for partial months available
      • Onsite space is limited to availability
      • Stored Bikes are accessible during store hours (11-8 weekdays and 11-6 weekends, Excluding Holidays)

The NYC Velo Service Department has offered to sweeten the deal and extend a one time 1/2 price Deluxe Tune-up for bikes stored for 3 or more months (performed at the conclusion of the storage term)! THE FIRST MODERN CARBON CROSS BIKE – PARLEE BRINGS IT LIGHT, SMOOTH AND FAST

Bringing the performance and durability of PARLEE’s road bikes to the dirt, the CX is the perfect cyclocross machine (handmade in Beverly Mass with a lifetime warranty). The CX is feathery light, sucks up the terrain and dives into tight corners with the flick of a wrist.

Like its road counterparts, the CX’s carbon fiber construction make it the perfect blend of forgiveness and rigidity, making it adept at racing or linking together miles of back country roads. The wishbone mono-stay eliminates seat stay flex under braking. Ample tire clearance makes it perfect in all conditions from the dry hardpack of September to the muddy slop of November. With its light weight and top mounted cable stays, shouldering is almost literally a breeze.

Press-Fit 30 bottom bracket now available as a no-charge option! Semi-Custom frame and fork = $5900 : Full Custom frame and fork = $6900 (all made to order.) The CX is available in 5 FLEX-FIT options as well as complete custom bikes.

Tour de France + Le Tour SALE

It’s finally that time of year (TdF that is)! The weather is heating up and so is the racing. Join us here at NYC VELO to kickoff the most presitgious bike race on the planet… that’s right, the 98th Tour de France starts at 8AM on Saturday July 2nd!! Not only will we have our favorite coffee guru Ben on site, wowing cyclists with perfect espresso extractions, but our Le Tour SALE will begin at the same moment as the race. Get 10% off all road bikes (limited to in-stock merchandise) including Felt and Kona CX bikes for the duration of Le Tour.

Stage one:

This year’s first stage will begin with a road race instead of the customary prologue (time trial), which has been the tradition since 1967. The route is partly coastal, some of which is submerged by the ocean tides twice a day (passage is only possible during the low tides). The road twists and turns on roadways with wide panoramic views of the ocean and coastal marshland before eventually turning inland toward Les Herbiers and rising to Mount des Alouettes.

Sale and Tour run July 2nd through July 24th !!

Bike of the Week: Montelatici Special with full Campy Nuovo Record

Vasco Montelatici had a long time involvement with bicycle racing, not only as a shop owner and sponsor, but as a racer himself.  Vasco was Campione del Mondo in 1955 (amateur road champion).  It is known that Vasco was an old friend and business associate of Cino Cinelli.

Matteo Brandi arranged to send 14 of these frames to the US, where they were offered to members of the Classic Rendezvous e-mail list, a loosely connected group of vintage lightweight bicycle collectors spread all over the world. These frames have some unique features, such as an unusual scalloped rear drop out and fork drop out attachment. There appears to be two different styles of lug windows and bottom bracket cut outs in the group, but all the frames have the scalloped drop out attachments and fork and rear  stays.

Construction techniques, materials, geometry and style indicate that the Montelatici frames were made sometime in the 1970s.

Some collectors have observed that the brazing pin placement is similar to that used by Cinelli in the 1970s. The personal and business relationship between Cino Cinelli and Vasco Montelatici could indicate the frames were made by Cinelli for his old friend.

This 53cm bike, a true collectors item, is for sale at $3600.  So come by the shop and check it out- it’s on display for all to marvel at until some lucky retro-grouch falls in love and rides off into the sunset with it.

Sale BOTW: Our Kona CX Rental Fleet

2010 has come and gone- to the relief of most people.  As the new year is in its infancy, it affords us the chance for some cathartic clean up.  Out with the old and in with the new, right?

What better way to do that then to put up our awesome fleet of 2011 Kona Jake the Snake CX bikes for sale?   These bad boys were around all season, allowing newbies to try out and fall in love with our favorite mud, beer, and cowbell-inundated sport.   Now you can get your very own for a steal: $1120.00. Highlights include BB30, Shimano 105 shifters, and Kore brakes.

All of the bikes were lightly used and barely 3 months old.  They’ve been cleaned and fully tuned up.  On top of that, they still come with Kona’s standard warranty.  This is a great opportunity for you to to be CX-race-ready for half the price of a pair of Zipps.

The Jake the Snake is also an ideal winter training bike.  Keep that carbon racing rig nice and clean and get this one dirty-  we promise that it won’t mind.

Sale BOTW: Salsa La Cruz CX

This week’s Bike of the week just so happens to be a Sale BOTW-  The Salsa La Cruz.   The color is eerily October-appropriate, and its a unique, well-spec’d CX rig.  If you’re of a “steel is reel” mindset, then look no further-  The frame’s tubes are true temper ox platinum steel.   The component set is quite excellent as well, with cable disc brakes (now UCI legal), XT hubs, and 105 shifters and derailleurs. The bike was originally $1680 and is now priced to sell at $1150.

And most importantly,  it will be easy for you to spot you and your bike when you are scrounging for photos of last week’s CX race to replace your Facebook profile photo.
