NYC Velo is proud to offer our latest interpretation of the Surly Steamroller. The Steamroller model, for a few years now, is only available from Surly as a frameset (which is tough to ride by itself). We've gotten creative with the Steamroller in the past and this iteration is no exception.
This build starts with the new 53cm Banana Candy Yellow frame and a New Old Stock road disc fork made for us by Vicious Cycles in New Paltz, NY. In 2006 we commissioned a run of custom steel forks specifically for the Steamroller (so that folks would be able to run a front disc brake on their fixie).
NYC Velo mechanics David & Jonah built out the rest of the bike, component highlights include Velocity 650b Quill rims laced in-house to Surly hubs with DT Swiss double-butted spokes & WTB Horizon tires, All-City track cranks, a Cane Creek 40 headset with the front brake routed through the hollow bolt topcap, and Surly Open bars.
This special ride is perfect for cruising the Old Croton Aqueduct tip-to-tail or just jamming around the East Village’s rough roads, all for $1999. Got your own ideas for a build? We’re always interested in a challenge! Send us an email at [email protected]
